Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
The Federal Highway Administration is one of eleven modal administrations within the U.S. Department of Transportation. FHWA is charged with the broad responsibility of ensuring that America's roads and highways continue to be the safest and most technologically up-to-date.
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)
Federal agency that oversees commercial motor vehicle safety. Activities include enforcement of safety regulations, targeting high-risk carriers and commercial motor vehicle drivers, improving safety information systems and commercial motor vehicle technologies, strengthening commercial motor vehicle equipment and operating standards, and increasing safety awareness.Includes a bi-monthly Safety Activities Newsletter, road user resources and professional resources including facts & data and training & education.

Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP)
The MCSAP is a Federal grant program that provides financial assistance to States to reduce the number and severity of crashes and hazardous materials incidents involving commercial motor vehicles (CMV). The goal of the MCSAP is to reduce CMV-involved crashes, fatalities, and injuries through consistent, uniform, and effective CMV safety programs.

Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA)

Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA)
The Office of Hazardous Materials Safety is the Federal safety authority for the transportation of hazardous materials by air, rail, highway, and water.
Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) was created to promulgate and enforce rail safety regulations; administer railroad assistance programs; conduct research and development in support of improved railroad safety and national rail transportation policy; provide for the rehabilitation of Northeast Corridor rail passenger service; and consolidate government support of rail transportation activities.

Center for Excellence in Rural Safety
Established in the recent federal transportation act (SAFETEA-LU) to facilitate training, research and educational exchange in the areas of travel safety and choices, technology, economic development, citizen participation, and community development.
FHWA/NHTSA National Crash Analysis Center
The National Crash Analysis Center (NCAC) is a successful collaborative effort among the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and The George Washington University (GWU). Chartered in 1992 at GW's School of Engineering and Applied Science, the NCAC primarily supports the U.S. Department of Transportation's (USDOT) strategic goal to reduce fatalities and injuries on the Nation's roadways, but has served to enhance efforts to improve safety worldwide. The missions of the NCAC include:
- improving safety by expanding researchers' knowledge about crashes,
- developing and sharing the detailed vehicle and hardware models, and
- leading efforts to apply computer simulation tools to enable researchers to study the complex interactions associated with crashes.
HumanFIRST Program
The HumanFIRST (Human Factors Interdisciplinary Research in Simulation and Transportation) Program of the ITS Institute provides facilities—including an immersive, virtual-reality simulator environment—and expertise to study the interaction between people and transportation systems.
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Institute
Conducts research, education, and technology transfer initiatives that focus on human-centered technology. The ultimate aim of this work is to enhance the safety and mobility of road and transit-based transportation. The Institute is a University Transportation Center (UTC) funded through the SAFETEA-LU, and a program of the University of Minnesota Center for Transportation Studies.
Mountain-Plains Consortium
The Mountain-Plains Consortium (MPC) is a national resource and focal point for the support of research and training concerning the transportation infrastructure and the movement of passengers and freight. The MPC is a Center of Excellence for Rural and Intermodal Transportation.

Traffic Safety Center
The Traffic Safety Center at the University of California Berkeley has teamed with UC Berkeley Institute of Transportation Studies, Schools of Public Health and Optometry, Department of Civil Engineering, centers at other Universities in California, and public and private agencies to reduce traffic fatalities and injuries through multi-disciplinary collaboration in education, research, and outreach.

The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) is an independent center at North Dakota State University which is guided, in part, by an advisory council composed of representatives of various organizations industries and agencies affecting or affected by transportation.
Virginia Tech Transportation Institute
The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) is an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, university research center of Virginia Tech. VTTI pursues its mission by encouraging research, attracting a multidisciplinary core of researchers, and educating students in the latest transportation technologies through hands-on research and experience. The institute is both a FHWA/FTA ITS Research Center of Excellence and a Mid-Atlantic University Transportation Center.
Western Transportation Institute
Founded in 1994 by the Montana and California Departments of Transportation, in cooperation with Montana State University, the Western Transportation Institute has grown from a small, university research office into a nationally recognized center of excellence in rural transportation research and education.

Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety
An alliance of consumer, health and safety groups and insurance companies and agents working together to make America's roads safer. Resources include the 2007 Roadmap to State Highway Safety Laws which identifies gaps in state highway safety laws.
American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators
The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) is a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization developing model programs in motor vehicle administration, law enforcement and highway safety. The association also serves as an information clearinghouse in these areas, and acts as the international spokesman for these interests.
American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)

National Association of Counties (NACO)
The National Association of Counties (NACo) represents county governments in the United States. Founded in 1935, NACo provides essential services to the nation's 3,066 counties. NACo advances issues with a unified voice before the federal government, improves the public's understanding of county government, assists counties in finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and research, and provides value-added services to save counties and taxpayers money.
National Association of County Engineers (NACE)
The National Association of County Engineers (NACE) members are county engineers or engineers serving in equivalent capacities in counties of the United States. NACE's objectives are to advance county engineering and management by providing a forum for exchange of ideas and information aimed at improving service to the public; to foster and stimulate the growth of individual state organizations of county engineers and county road officials; to improve relations and the spirit of cooperation among county engineers and other agencies; to monitor national legislation affecting county transportation/public works departments and trhough NACo, provide NACE's legislative opinions.

Roadway Safety Foundation
