About the Event

Between 1999 and 2002, Georgia's rural roads were the seventh worst in the country based on the number of fatalities. During that time, the state’s rural roads accounted for 35 percent of total vehicle miles traveled and 50 percent of the state’s roadway fatalities. This increased risk of death can be attributed to numerous factors, including a lack of enforcement and ineffective occupant safety laws.

In this webinar, Spencer Moore discussed the Region 4 Georgia Rural Safety Belt Demonstration Project, which addressed the challenge of increasing safety belt use in rural areas. The project goal was to prevent fatal and nonfatal injuries to drivers in Georgia’s rural areas through comprehensive enforcement, media, outreach, and an evaluation program.
